NZL NATS

This past weekend we had the New Zealand white water slalom Championships! They ran resonably smoothly. I placed 2nd in both the pre nationals which was on the Saturday and the Nationals that were on the Sunday in the open women. My runs weren't fast but they were solid and consistent.
For now I am staying with Izzy at the Mt for a few days. Training in the good ol Bay of Plenty!
The sun is shining and the surf is okay so im off to check out Izzys new surfboard...

Oceania Championships

The Qualification race for the Oceania Championships was on the Saturday. I went into the race feeling quite nervous and unfortunately it showed in my paddling. As I made my way down the course I touched several gates and was quite offline. I was pretty disapointed but theres not much you can do. The top 20 made it through to the semi final.
On the Sunday I got to race in what was called the invitation division(Those that didn't make Semis). My first run was okay with only 1 small mishap. My second run was not so good.
It was a big learning experience and showed me how not to prepare for a race!
Both Luuka and James are now in the running for the Olympics(Providing they make the top 16 Nations at the World Cups). Which is awesome!!!!
For now im back in Otaki having a bit of down time before I head up North to the New Zealand National Slalom Kayak Champs which are this coming weekend!

Bullerfest!

On Friday night Calum, Dylan and myself made our way up to Murchison for Bullerfest. Bullerfest is a major kayaking event that happens every year and is a really fun Competition. Unfortunately the rain gods were working hard this weekend! On the Saturday we had the slalom and it poured down. From the time I looked at the course to the time I got on the water the river had risen about a foot! A few gates had to be taken out as the flow increased and the gates changed from ups to downs as currents invaded the eddies! My 1st run was alright but with the increase of the already fast flow I was pushed off line in my 2nd run. I ended up in 2nd. The Saturday night party as per usual was Awesome!!!!! Some sweet dancing was done!
I managed to make it home safely thanks to Mainfreight who kindly picked me up off the side of the road. So I am now back in Otaki doing some training and getting sorted for Auz!! Only 3days to go!wooooya
